Choosing a school is one of the most important decisions a family makes. If you are looking at CBSE schools in Etah, a little preparation makes it much easier to compare options fairly. Here is a practical checklist you can use.

1. Verify the CBSE affiliation

Every CBSE-affiliated school has an affiliation number and a school code. You can check a school’s affiliation status on CBSE’s official affiliation portal (SARAS), available through the CBSE website. Note the affiliation number and check the classes up to which the school is affiliated.

2. Read the Mandatory Public Disclosure

CBSE requires schools to publish key information on their website — including affiliation documents, safety certificates, fee structure, staff details, infrastructure and Board results. Reading this page tells you a great deal about how transparent a school is. (We have written a separate guide on what the Mandatory Public Disclosure contains.)

3. Look at the full school journey

Think beyond the class your child is joining today. Does the school offer classes up to Class XII? Which streams are available in Classes XI and XII? Continuing at one school avoids disruption at important stages.

4. Understand class sizes and classrooms

Ask how many students there are in a section and how classrooms are equipped. Find out whether digital or smart classroom tools are used in teaching, and how.

5. Ask about teachers

Teachers make the biggest difference to learning. Ask about qualifications in line with CBSE norms, how long teachers usually stay, and how the school supports their training.

6. Check safety and transport

Look for valid building and fire safety certificates in the disclosure. If you need school transport, ask about routes, timings, supervision on buses and fees.

7. Ask how progress is communicated

How often are parent–teacher meetings held? How are notices and circulars shared? A school with clear communication makes it easier for you to support your child.

8. Get the fee structure in writing

Ask for the complete fee structure, including admission, tuition, annual and transport charges, and the payment schedule.

9. Visit the school

Nothing replaces a visit. Walk through the classrooms, library and laboratories, observe how students and teachers interact, and ask your questions in person.

In summary

  • Verify CBSE affiliation and read the Mandatory Public Disclosure.
  • Consider the full journey to Class XII.
  • Ask about teachers, class sizes, safety, transport and fees.
  • Visit before you decide.
