If you visit the website of any CBSE-affiliated school, you should find a page called Mandatory Public Disclosure. CBSE requires schools to publish this information so that parents and the public can see key facts about the school in one place.
What does it contain?
The disclosure follows a format prescribed by CBSE. It is usually organised into these parts:
A. General information
The name of the school, its CBSE affiliation number and school code, complete address, the Principal’s name and qualification, and contact details.
B. Documents and information
Self-attested copies of important documents, such as the affiliation letter, society or trust registration, No Objection Certificate (where applicable), recognition under the RTE Act, building safety and fire safety certificates, the DEO certificate or self-certification, and water, health and sanitation certificates.
C. Results and academics
The fee structure, the annual academic calendar, lists of the School Management Committee and Parent Teacher Association members, and Board examination results for the last three years, where applicable.
D. Staff (teaching)
Details of the Principal, the number of teachers (PGT, TGT and PRT), the teacher–section ratio, and details of the special educator and the counsellor and wellness teacher.
E. School infrastructure
Campus area, number and size of classrooms and laboratories, internet facility, number of toilets for girls and boys, and a link to a video of the school’s infrastructure.
Why should parents read it?
- Verify the basics: confirm the affiliation number and that safety certificates are valid.
- Compare schools fairly: the format is similar across CBSE schools, which makes comparison easier.
- Understand fees upfront: the fee structure is part of the disclosure.
- See results over time: three years of Board results give a fairer picture than a single year.
